Step Platforms

Step Platforms Increase Cardio Intensity

Step aerobics, a popular type of aerobics that uses a mobile step platform in a routine of movements developed to increase cardio intensity and trim hips, thighs and calves, is a great way to take your aerobics routine to the next level and really increase the intensity of a cardio workout. Step platforms come in many sizes, the smallest are just barely off the floor and are a great way for beginners to get used to the step aerobics movements without any danger of injury. The larger steps are for seasoned step professionals and can be as tall as 14 inches or more off the ground. Only people who are at an advanced level of step aerobic training should use those steps. Often a one step exercise platform that can be purchased at a home store or department store will include risers to increase the height of the step as the person gets better at step aerobics and wants to increase workout intensity. Adjustable steps may cost more, but it’s worth it to have the flexibility to change the step height when necessary. The Kathy Smith step platform comes with a workout DVD and an adjustable step. Some of the most popular home fitness video and DVD sets right now combine a step aerobics routine with mat work to slim muscles and burn fat. Those plans usually include a beginner level step platform with the program.

Step Aerobics Aren’t For Everyone

Even though using a step platform does give a great workout, it’s not an appropriate workout for everyone. Because it’s high intensity and involves stepping on and off a raised step platform anyone who has joint problems, arthritis, bad knees, or other physical ailments should not start step aerobics unless a doctor says it’s ok. Serious injury could be caused by missing a step and falling off the step platform, or from the impact on the knees, ankles and feet of the constant stepping on and off the step platform. Step aerobics can be fun, but nothing is worth damaging your health. Anyone who really wants to try step aerobics but has join trouble can try watching a TV show on step aerobics or trying to do a step aerobics DVD without the step platform. The step platform would definitely increase the intensity of the workout but it’s possible to do the workout without the step platform as well.
